* I CAN BREATHE IN A SMALL TOWN *

“Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be.”
– Small Town, John Cougar Mellencamp

Hello dear fellow humans,

I was reminded of the joy of performing comedy last night at a fundraiser in a small Albertan town. Working at comedy clubs is a hoot. People have paid money to see comedy. That gives you a leg up, and I completely enjoy it. But there’s balance… give me a community hall, a quanset hut, a curling rink… give me your A&Ws, your Super 8s, your Racetrac gas stations. Fill up the hall with goodhearted, real folks, hit the lights and let’s do this thing. Next time I’m fretting about a missed opportunity or obsessing that someone else got to do something I wanted to, I’ll remember how good I felt at the small town gig. 80% trucks in the parking lot, beef on a bun at midnight and a silent auction with homemade crafts. See ya’ on the road.

Love,
Lori
